An explosion rocked several floors of an apartment building in Bucharest. At least three people died and 13 were injured, most of whom were hospitalized. According to BGNES, Romanian emergency services believe a gas leak was the cause.
The explosion severely damaged two floors of the eight-story building, threatening its collapse, and forced the evacuation of residents as well as students and teachers from a nearby high school in the southwest of the Romanian capital.
Rescue workers are still searching for possible victims, including one person found under rubble on the sixth floor, AFP reported.
The head of the emergency services, Raed Arafat, cited a gas leak as the most likely cause of the explosion, without providing further details.
