The big retro quiz: 20 kitchen treasures from grandma’s time – do you know them all?

A brief journey through old kitchens.
There was a time when every kitchen contained things that almost no one recognizes today. Tin, enamel, wood – robust materials that shaped everyday life. Many of these helpers were indispensable and made cooking, baking, and storage significantly easier. Here, we take you on a nostalgic tour of the utensils of yesteryear – sometimes curious, sometimes ingenious, and always a piece of history.

Puréeing, turning, sifting: classic kitchen work.
The Flotte Lotte (food mill) was the star when it came to velvety soups, applesauce, or tomato sauce. You put fruit or vegetables in at the top, turned the crank, and finely puréed food came out at the bottom – all without electricity. Equally indispensable: the meat grinder. With a few turns, meat became mince, and with the right attachment, you could even make spritz cookies. And before kitchen machines took over, a flour sieve ensured airy dough: tap, shake, sift – and the baking flour was ready.
