wl and a spoon and sat down opposite her at the table. Léa stared at the stew as if it were completely unfamiliar. She didn’t lift her spoon. She didn’t even blink. Her gaze remained fixed on the bowl, and her shoulders were hunched, as if she were preparing for something. After a few minutes, I asked quietly, « Hey… why aren’t you eating? » She didn’t answer immediately. She lowered her head, and her voice became so quiet it was barely audible across the table. « Can I eat something today? » she whispered. For a moment, I didn’t want to process the words. I smiled automatically, because it was the only thing that came to mind. I leaned forward and said gently, « Of course. You can eat anytime. » As soon as she heard that, Léa’s expression darkened. She gripped the edge of the table and burst into tears: loud, trembling sobs that didn’t sound like those of a tired child… but like those of someone who had carried a heavy burden for far too long.
