2. The Importance of Right-of-Way Rules

Right-of-way rules are a central element of traffic regulations and are designed to help manage traffic flow and prevent accidents. The basic rules are simple: In intersections without traffic signs, the rule is « right before left. » However, this rule becomes more complex when several vehicles approach an intersection simultaneously.
In this case, it is important to pay attention to the relative positions of the vehicles and react accordingly. The decision as to which vehicle has the right-of-way must be made clearly and quickly in every case. Traffic signs and traffic lights help to clarify such situations, but even in complex situations without visible rules, one must be aware of one’s responsibility and, if necessary, show consideration for other road users.
